This snapshot describes the steps taken by Vanuatu to access Green Climate Fund finance for improved water security. A strong integrated approach towards identifying and implementing capital investments in water supply was a fundamental first step. This programme was positioned as a priority intervention by the government for the cooperation with GCF, as it aligned well with the country's climate resilience policies and strategies. Another requirement was having an accredited entity to receive the funding. Although the application process took a number of years, the funding received represent a substantial increase of over 28 million USD in ODA for water security.
This brief case study was written for the 2025 SWA Sector Ministers' Meeting held in Madrid, 22-23 October.
